David Eugene Spencer

David Eugene Spencer, 75, of Arlington, TX passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026.  David was born on December 25th, 1950, in Greensboro, NC to Harvey and Nancy Spencer. He graduated from University of North Carolina, Greensboro, and served as a Special Forces - Green Beret, Sargent in Vietnam.  He spent most of his professional career working in Accounting and Logistics for several large corporate distribution centers. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Eugene Spencer, mother, Nancy Thomas Spencer and brother, Thomas Stedman Spencer (Chip). David is survived by his wife, Mary Scott Spencer, of Whiteville, NC and daughter, Margaret Lee Lavender (Scott Scovell Lavender).  He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Sarah Dupree Lavender, grandson, Scott Scovell Lavender II and brother, John Harvey Spencer.

David’s love for old muscle cars was unmistakable, particularly when it came to his 1964 Pontiac GTO. After restoring it, he took great pride in cruising with the windows down and the radio turned up while checking out on looker’s admiring glances. His fascination with flight was just as strong. It was not uncommon to find him hanging out at a municipal airport just watching the planes come and go. In his later years, he embraced the challenge of working toward his pilot’s license. Driven by grit and determination, he overcame many obstacles in life and often reminded those around him, “It is what it is,” before pressing forward to do what needed to be done.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 11:00 am in Whiteville, NC at the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
